Gulf War: Part II (The Sins of the Father.)

by Kempion

Are you ready for Gulf War: Part II?

I'm not. I haven't been convinced that the right plan is in place. Here's what I mean:

First, of all the original Gulf War was never declared over. There never was a peace treaty. That war ended with a cease fire agreement.  The signatories know full well the ramifications of a cease fire agreement and should conduct themselves accordingly. The signatories are OBLIGATED to adhere to this agreement, for better or worse.  I raq has vioated the cease fire by firing on Coalition fighters and drones.  If it were an isolated evernt, then perhaps it could be overlooked, however, these attacks takes place daily and number in the hundreds.  This is enough provocation to re-enter the war and put an end to the Iraqi regime.

Second, the Iraqi people are not part of the problem. In fact, neither is the Iraqi military. The leadership of Iraq, namely Saddam Hussein and his sons, are the problem. Notice I included his sons as part of the problem? I did so because they are just like their father. When Sodom is removed from Iraq, by whatever means, his sons should be forced out as well. This is not a case of the 'sins of the father', this is based on what we already know of the sons. They are murderers just like their dear old dad. Will Iraq be a safer place without Sodom? No, not if his sons are left behind to conduct his affairs. Which is exactly what they will be doing.  Any plan that doesn't call for his sons to go into exhile and never return to Iraq is not acceptable.

I am completely opposed to the U.S. going to war_to 'free' the people of any nation regardless of its leadership or circumstances -  unless invaded, at which time we may enter a war to turn out those invaders.

The fact is, if freedom isn't earned thru blood and sacrafice, it won't be respected or appreciated.  The United States was build on the sacrafice of blood.  From time to time, it is necessary to spill more blood to maintain that freedom.  This is a renewal of freedom process and MUST be done.  While I abhor war, I realize the necessity for it.  Without the sacrafice, we will grow complacent of our freedoms as is evidence by the anti-American/anit-war protesters.  Is this something to look foraward to? No.  It is, however, necessary.

I also don't agree with rebuilding nations that cause their own demise.  I want to see the vanquished learn from the error of their ways.  I don't want to coddle them.  Iraq has enough revenue potential that they can not only pay for their own reconstruction, they can pay us for our efforts, IN FULL.   With the support of the U.N. (mainly the U.S.), the Iraqi people will be able to install a democratically elected government, restore their country and build it towards being a prosperous nation. This is IF the Husseins are completely removed from power in that country.

In summary, if we are going to remove the current dictatorship, then we must remove all of its tentacles. Doing half the job will land us right back where we are today... ten years from now.
