The Everyday People Radio Show Format

Show Format and How to Become a Guest

The format of our show is straight forward. Our guests bring topics to the show that they would like to discuss. Depending on the time available, we may or may not get to each guests' topic.

We use the Yahoo! chat client for our show. We open a private chat room and invite our guests to that room. We then broadcast the voice chat from the chat room across Hern Net Radio. Therefore, if you would like to be a guest on our show, then you will need to download Yahoo! Messenger. You will also need a microphone.

You can get Yahoo! Messenger HERE.

Once you have Yahoo! Messenger installed and set up, contact us with your Yahoo! ID (username) and let us know that you would like to be on our show. Click HERE to contact us.

Show Guidelines

Once you are invited to the show room, then you will need to do a voice check. This only takes a few seconds for most guests. You will be assisted in the event that your voice is not functioning properly.

Prior to air time there is a benediction. In our case this is the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. While the host and guests speak on the mic, other guests can communicate in text in the chat room. There are some basic rules for getting your turn to talk.

First, when you want to make a point, simply type "point" into the chat room and then wait for the host to call upon you. Due to the number and variety is guests we have, we ask that you include your name after you type "point". For example, "point joe".

At the top and bottom of each hour, we take a short break. Guests are permitted to speak during this time, HOWEVER, pay attention to what our producer is typing in the chat room. When he types "standby", please clear the mic. This means we are going back on the air. Otherwise, we are in "safe" mode.

That's it. Really simple, right? Wait til you experience it firsthand. It's anything but simple!

"Don't you just love live radio?" - Matt, EPR Host.
